The noise-punk trio Aivery <\/strong>consists of Doris Zimmermann, Franziska Schwarz<\/strong> and Jasmin Maria Rilke<\/strong>, who met at the Austrian Girls Rock Camp in 2012. Originating in Portland, such camps aim to demistify the process of making music as something inaccessible to young girls. Their goal is to provide a stimulating place for girls, improve their confidence in music expression and fight sexism in the music industry. As such, they represent an excellent jumping board for those without much pre-existing musical knowledge, but with a strong urge to take the world\u2019s stages. Aivery released their first, eponymous EP last November on Unrecords. It received good reviews, including comments on the youthful freshness they brought to the Austrian alternative scene. Their music reminds one of 1990s alternative rock due to its elements of defiance, rebellion and melancholia. Their guitar riffs invoke Nirvan<\/strong>a or Sonic Youth<\/strong>, and the vocals are not unlike Becca Albee<\/strong> or Carrie Brownstein <\/strong>from the riot grrrl band Excuse 17<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

Tirana is a music solo project of Viennese Veronika Eberhart<\/strong>, who previously appeared on the Austrian alternative scene in Ilsebill and Plaided. She performs live with various musicians, in Menza she will appear with Jasmin Maria Rilke<\/strong> of Aivery <\/strong>and a secret guest. In 2005, Veronika was one of the co-organisers of Ladyfest Vienna, which focuses on the underrepresentation of women on the music scene. That is where she met the like-minded Julia Mitterbauer<\/strong> and Alena Pfoser <\/strong>with whom she formed the band Ilsebill. Four years later, the duo Plaided was born; last year, they toured the West Coast of the USA as Grass Widow\u2019s opening act. Tirana decided to go solo in 2011. Her lo-fi music encompasses everything from guitar ballads and alter rock to sampled eurodance rhythms. Her sound was influenced by 1980s Los Angeles punk and 1990s riot grrrl. Tirana has mostly played Austrian stages, though she represented her country at the Dutch Eurosonic festival this year. She also provided the music for the indie film production Talea (directed by Katharina M\u00fcckstein<\/strong>).<\/p>\n
