Fake Orchestra (Slovenia)

Fake Orchestra was founded by Igor Leonardi in 1998 and is one of the first bands who started arranging old Slovenian folk songs into modern musical styles. They have released three albums, two of them with some Slovenian folk songs, among other world music and jazz standards.

Their new repertoire consists mostly of traditional Slovenian songs from several provinces, some also from Rezija in Italy. Many older folk songs really don’t have a refrain, but only verse after verse in their form. This suits very well for funk, soul, jazz, afrobeat and similar musical styles.

There has been some folk revival in Slovenian traditional music lately, with bands arranging it into jazz or/and rock. The new Fake Orchestra project wants to make people move and brings the dance element to this matter. Some kind of Back to Roots …or Life Before Polka and Waltz. Of course there are also songs that are played in more quiet manner.

Fake Orchestra:
Ana Vipotnik – vocals
Igor Leonardi – guitar
Nino de Gleria – bass
Ana Šimenc – alt sax (&back vocals)
Primož Fleischman – tenor sax
Igor Matkovič – trumpet
Enos Kugler – drums
