New exploding Scandinavian quintet. Their music is a furies and beautiful combination of freely improvised melodies and short compositions, all wrapped up in acoustic free jazz aesthetics. Küchen´s raw and intensive tone along with Älklint´s distinguished trombone joins up with three likeminded Norwegians with the same passion for music made in the moment. Their recent debut-album on Stone Floor Records shows a unique dedication to acoustic and impulsive interplay.

Martin Küchen – saxophones
Martin has for the last two decades been a central figure on the Scandinavian free jazz/impro scene . He´s direct and ruthless approach is filled with musical sincerity and honesty. Frequent collaborations with Keith Rowe, John Tilbury, Phil Minton, Mark Sanders, Burkhard Beins, Andrea Neumann, Tony Bevan and Joe Williamson. His own sextet Angles has also been given a lot of attention lately.
Thomas Johansson – trumpet
Full throttle trumpeter Thomas Johansson is worth checking out. Known for his bursting energy and raw sound, he´s one of many new interesting improvisers in Norway at the moment. Thomas is dedicating most of his time to his quartet Cortex consisting of Kristoffer Alberts (reeds), Ole Høyer (bass) and Gard Nilssen (drums).
Mats Äleklint – trombone
Stockholm-based trombonist Mats Äleklint is starting to become a frequently used player throughout Scandinavia and the rest of Europe. His powerful and lyrical style is quite unique. Mats have for the past years been working with musicians and projects like Dave Holland, Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, Angles, The Thing XXL, Per-Henrik Wallin, and many others.
Jon Rune Strøm – double bass
Jon Rune Strøm is one of the new leading bass voices of Norwegian jazz and impro. Known as an extreme high-energy free player with extraordinary stamina, he’s leant his bass muscle to both straight ahead jazz projects as well as free improvised settings such as Frode Gjerstad’s trio with drummer Paal Nilssen-Love. Jon Rune is also working with other known improvisers including Mats Gustafsson, Ken Vandermark, Steve Swell and Raymond Strid.
Tollef Østvang – drums
Tollef Østvang is a new upcoming Norwegian improviser. He´s old school drum sound mixed with an endless curiosity for spontaneous music making results in an energetic style filled with warmth and depth. After living briefly in Amsterdam he made a strong connection to the Dutch jazz scene, and is collaborating with musician
such as Ab Baars, Michael Moore, John Dikeman and Wilbert de Joode.
